3:00 Can I ask where this 10,000,000 deaths figure comes from? This sounds like an estimate given by Robert Conquest before the opening of the CCCP archives. The archives record about 1.7 million deaths in Gulags and 700,000 executions, for a total of two million, or perhaps three if we assume an underestimate. EDIT: I was thinking, perhaps a ten million figure could be reached if we include deaths by famine etc? That might be the source of your figure, not sure. Still, it might be a stretch to count deaths by famine as part of political terror - it seems that they are a very different source of deaths to judicial executions

I would say that Article 48 was a weakness of the Weimar Constitution and not a strength. Article 48 could be argued as the way Hitler gained his power. Article 48 also forced the republic to become undemocratic. Obviously this depends on the use of the Article. Hitler used it as a way to pass the Reichstag Fire Decree which suspend civil rights. This is why the Article is a weakness.
